SPRINGFIELD, VA—Interstate Van Lines, a division of Interstate Worldwide Relocation Services, announced today that it has won the 2008 National Defense Transportation Association (NDTA) Quality Award, formerly known as the SDDC Quality Award. Interstate Worldwide Relocation Services is a leading global provider of transportation, relocation, and logistics management solutions. Its van line division is the only van line in the industry to have won this prestigious Department of Defense award. This is the 6th consecutive and 8th overall NDTA Quality Award that Interstate has been privileged to receive. The award is presented to outstanding organizations throughout the commercial transportation industry that have set exceptional standards and delivered the highest quality of services to the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD). Award recipients each year represent DoD-approved transportation providers for all modes and services, including air freight, delivery services, logistics, ocean ports and personnel travel, as well as household goods transportation.
Interstate was nominated for the award by the Transportation Office of FISC Puget Sound, Bremerton, Washington.
The nomination was submitted by the Transportation Officer, Andrea Gergen. The award, presented by NDTA President LTG Kenneth Wykle, USA (ret.), was bestowed upon Interstate based on the company’s implementation of industry firsts, including the Partner and Liaison (PAL) Program, Driver & Agent Recognition System (DARS) Program, as well as the E-TRAC System.
In the nominating statement, Ms. Gergen stated, “Historically, and for the past five years expressly, Interstate Van lines has consistently achieved high ratings under the DoD Total Quality Assurance Program. As a result of their excellent TQAP scores they have serviced over 500 of our military shippers annually, thus making them one of our largest carriers serving the military community of Puget Sound. They have established a Military Affairs Department that is always available to assist us with any concerns; at any time our office has required assistance they have been extremely responsive, and have worked tirelessly to provide top-notch service for our military shippers. Not only have they shown a history of attentiveness, they have continually worked to develop innovative service programs specifically designed for our military shippers. It is obvious through these programs and innovations that they are uniquely committed to military customers and their families.”
Knowing that moving is one of the top five most stressful experiences in a person’s life, Interstate introduced the PAL program to assist customers and family members by minimizing stress throughout the move process. In the PAL program, Interstate assigns a dedicated Partner and Liaison to each customer family to assist them with each and every step of the move. This dedicated representative is available and ready to help deliver peace of mind and increase customer satisfaction.
Interstate’s DARS Program, introduced two years ago, is an innovative web-based system that provides the company’s valued military customers, family members, Transportation Management Officers (TMOs), and Service Providers with relevant information about the driver before the shipment is loaded. The DARS Program was designed to reduce stress by providing an online introduction and reducing the fears associated with a “Stranger at the Door.” In addition to the added security, the DARS program allows the customer to learn about the drivers experience helping them feel more at ease with who will be handling their possessions during the relocation.
Another innovation introduced by Interstate is the E-TRAC system which brings shipment information status directly to the TMOs email box versus customers having to spend their valuable time researching needed shipment information. E-Trac was designed specifically to make the TMO’s job easier, and at the same time provide even better service to our military customers.
“Interstate Van Lines is extremely honored to be the only organization to achieve six consecutive wins in addition to being the only van lines to ever win this award” stated John D. Morrissette, president of Interstate Van Lines. “We are proud to offer such valuable services to our military members and their families and we strive to continually improve upon our own innovations to not only meet, but exceed the expectations of our customers.”
